Join Thunderbird Atlatl for a Vermont Atlatl Weekend Sept. 16 to 18

It’s not too late to sign up for Friday’s atlatl making workshop at the Mount Independence State Historic Site in Orwell, Vt.
Robert Berg of Thunderbird Atlatl will present his atlatl-making workshop from noon to 5:00 p.m. The session includes making your own atlatl, making and fletching three field darts, and coaching on the use of your new equipment. Bob also will demonstrate modern construction techniques, flint-knapping, hafting stone points, and cordage making from natural materials.
This is Bob’s 16th year presenting his workshop in Vermont. Bob was featured in Vermont Public Television’s program, Outdoor Journal, in March 2008.
The workshop has been moved to Mount Independence from its traditional location at the Chimney Point State Historic Site, due the adjacent Lake Champlain Bridge construction project, which will be completed next spring.
A $65 fee covers all materials, instruction, and admission to the museum at Mount Independence. Pre-registration is required. To request a form or ask questions, please call 802-759-2412. Or, the registration form is available online at: www.historicvermont.org/chimneypoint/atlatl

The workshop is the first day of the three day 16th Annual Northeast Open Atlatl Championship—September 16 to 18, a highlight of Vermont Archeology Month special events. After making your atlatl, compete on Saturday or Sunday.

Mount Independence is open daily, 9:30 to 5:00, through October 10. It is located at 497 Mount Independence Road, six miles west of the intersection of Vermont Routes 73 and 22A.

We had a great time in Flint Ridge in Brownsville, Ohio. It was great to see all the knappers and atlatlists! The weather was pretty hot Friday and Saturday but now back in upstate New York, we are experiencing massive flooding throughout the area so the hot weather was probably better!
This weekend, September 10 and 11, we are splitting up forces Bob will be at the Maine Primitive in Wells, Maine and Cheryll will be presenting a program at the Equinunk Historical Society in Equinunk, Pa.

Our son, Peter, is still participating in the Mongol Rally and should be in Mongolia now. We are waiting for him to have internet access so we can be updated! Stay dry if you are in upstate New York!

How To Order

We are looking into a new format for our shopping cart to make it easier to use. Bear with us as we figure out the system! It might take us a little time as we do deal in primitive technology products! Until then, please continue to use the current shopping cart or give us a call at 800-836-4520 or our cell phone at 607-743-4379 and we will make sure your order gets out! You can also trying emailing us at contact@thunderbirdatlatl.com and tell us what you are interested in ordering and we can help you out.
When you place an order on the current system, you don’t always see immediate feedback. You need to go to the bottom of the page and hit the “check cart” button to see what is being added to your cart. When you are ready to order, hit the “check out” button and then fill out the information sheet. Once you have entered all your information, hit the “send order” button and there will be a little note saying “thank you”. Hit “okay” and the order should send, followed by a little message that we will get back to you within 72 hours with a final price with shipping. If we aren’t at a show, we usually send a return message fairly quickly. If you don’t hear from us, please call the above number 800-836-4520 or email to check and we will make sure your order has been processed! The system is a little archaic and we are working on it. If you don’t hear from us within 72 hours, please do call either of the numbers above. We are here and shipping orders and trying to make this modern technology work with our primitive technology goods!
See you at Letchworth or talk to you on the phone or internet. The Thunderbird Atlatl staff!

Atlatl Battles in full force at Pennsic War!

The Thunderbird Atlatl crew is back from the 40th Pennsic War. As usual, we had a great time at Pennsic! This year, there were two Atlatl Battles above the castle. Nearly 100 people took part in the two atlatl battles. There were over 60 people participating in the second battle on Thursday.
The weather for both nights was great as teams tried to discover who the other teams Shaman was. Atlatl battles at Pennsic are always a highlight of our summer and we look forward to continuing the tradition next year an in years to come!
We will be at the Stonetool Show at Letchworth the end of August and at Flint Ridge over Labor Day.
