The atlatl season is off to a good start with lots of activities planned for the upcoming year. Here at Thunderbird Atlatl, we have been busy making atlatls for various youth camps and educational progams. It’s great to see youth learning about the atlatl and learning how to cast darts. Along with making atlatls and darts, we’ve been busy planting flax. In April, we received flax seeds from Holland and have planted an acre of flax. Bob has developed a flax kit where people can learn how to process flax.
We will be at several events in June. We’ll post our June 17 & 18 program soon. Over the weekend of June 12, we will be attending and teaching at the annual MAPS meet in Marylan. On June 30, we will be offering an atlatl making workshop at the Abbe Museum in Bar Harbor, Maine. The workshop is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 30. The next day, July 1, participants will be able to test out their new equpment at an atlatl competition. The workshop fee covers an atlatl and three darts. Pre-registration is required.
