Osceola Atlatl

What Osceolas formerly looked like. They are made differently now, and a new picture will be put up ASAP.

The Osceola is a bamboo, horn and wood composite atlatl inspired by the construction of the Asian horn bow. Using techniques gleaned from master boyer Jaap Koppedreyer of Ontario, Canada, I have created an atlatl that uses technology thousands of years old to make an atlatl that uses one of the fastest spring release systems known to man. Power stored in the first moments of the cast is released at the end of the cast to produce higher acceleration. The inertia of the dart resists acceleration and "cocks" the atlatl, bending it back until it reaches the apex of the cast. As it reaches the apex this energy is released back into the now moving dart, increasing its acceleration. This delayed action causes less lateral motion in the dart, thereby minimizing the flexing of it. Less flexing makes it more accurate.

Not only does this composite work well but it looks great. Highly polished buffalo horn and bamboo are a visual treat. The wooden part of the handel is made from exotic hardwood or curley domestic wood. The atlatl weight is made from colorful stone, polished using the same methods jewelers use to polish precious and semi-precious stone. These atlatls are made one at a time on a custom basis, so call me and I will work out the details with you.

The Osceola can also be fitted with an optional "Y" rest which holds the dart in place and allows the thrower to throw the dart without having to hold it in place. The "Y" rest can be attached to the Osceola for an extra $20.
