Thunderbird Atlatl is pleased to offer our customers an innovative atlatl design.
The Chemung is the brainchild of Jack Rowe. In this design Jack adheres to the impeccable craftsmanship that we expect at Thunderbird Atlatl. What makes this atlatl different is the paddle handle design that is reminiscent of the designs originally introduced into the atlatl world by Ray Strischeck. This is not a copy of Ray Strischeck’s atlatl designs but rather an evolutionary step in the same direction. Ray modeled some of his atlatls after spear throwers found in the Arctic Circle regions with the addition of the “Y” dart holder which is one of Ray’s contributions to the atlatl world. The “Y” is an adaptation of the dart rests which first made their appearance on atlatls that Bob Berg designed in the early 1990s. This atlatl is made mostly from local woods like maple, oak and walnut. This split-finger gripped atlatl is designed for comfort throughout the throw, keeping the wrist from twisting and has a fingerless rest.
This well-made atlatl is a joy to handle and use because of its well sculpted ergonomically designed grip. It is made from quality wood chosen for its strong and beautiful grain. The Chemung is both a treasure for the collector as well as the atlatlist on the target range. Chemung atlatls are both right and left handed. Please specify the one you prefer.
